Build-A-Pilot, Corp. Mission
To foster scholastic achievement, intellectual advancement, and to create new young pilots through a comprehensive program consisting of an aviation scholarship fund and mentorship system to benefit aspiring young aviators with a financial need.
Build-A-Pilot believes the future of aviation is in the hearts and souls of young people. To those with eyes ever looking upward, the sky beckons.
” . . . Aviation was born of these very desires and needs. To this day, flight allows youngsters the opportunity to meet these worthwhile challenges . . . “
Echoing our own sentiments, Donald Hulse, former president of the Teterboro School of Aeronautics, while giving remarks about a project airplane designed for youth to discover flight controls wrote, “Little Cut Up” . . . is dedicated to youth, it represents the desires of young people who seek personal challenge, accomplishment, creativity, and who wish for excitement and adventure. Aviation was born of these very desires and needs. To this day, flight allows youngsters the opportunity to meet these worthwhile challenges, and to achieve them. To Youth!”
To some, dreams of flight has simply become an impossible dream.
All too often, that beckoning call of aviation is pushed aside and forgotten due to financial constraints, not knowing how to start, and not having the support network in place to finish the goal. We at Build-A-Pilot, Corp. have experienced that ourselves.
There is a well publicised commercial pilot shortage. The commercial aviation industry is now starting to take steps to correct that. But there are many reasons for the shortage; higher costs, a shrinking middle-class, growing inaccessibility to airports due to security. And it is having a growing detrimental effect on the whole of aviation, not just commercial services.
To some, flight has simply become an impossible dream. But here is our message to youth:
“After being awarded the scholarship, each Build-A-Pilot recipient is guided and mentored by Build-A-Pilot volunteers the entire way while becoming a certificated pilot.”
Our goal is to bring accessibility and realistic expectation of becoming an aviator to deserving youth and to encourage scholastic achievement and responsibility. Sharing our love of flight and giving that possibility to others is our way of preserving the future of aviation. The Build-A-Pilot scholarship covers 50% of the cost to attain the ASEL Private Pilot Certificate. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate enthusiasm for aviation, motivation, and perseverance through a series of three tasks as part of a “competition style” scholarship application process, and the financial resources to fund half of the cost of training. After being awarded the scholarship, each Build-A-Pilot recipient is guided and mentored by Build-A-Pilot volunteers the entire way while becoming a certificated pilot.
Build-A-Pilot, Corp. directors, officers, and leaders are volunteers, serve without any compensation and have sworn to carry out the mission of the organization.
